Prada has just signed a new £42.9 million GBP loan (approximately $55 million USD) with French banking group Crédit Agricole, becoming the first luxury brand to obtain a loan with sustainability-related conditions. The first relates to Prada’s physical stores: there must be a certain amount of stores that are certified either gold or platinum by the green-building rating system Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, which takes into account the construction of a building, its management, and the number of resources it consumes or waste...

The RealReal Under Fire for Inconsistent Luxury Authentication

The RealReal has come under fire for reportedly misleading customers seeking secondhand luxury goods. As one of America’s largest pre-owned consignment stores — it filed to go public in May 2019 — clients depend on The RealReal to verify the authenticity of the often-pricey garments and accessories it handles, but Quartz highlights recent controversies surrounding the company’s verification practices. Detailed in a report by CNBC, a lack of appropriate training is key to the issues plaguing The RealReal. For instance, much of the verification is reportedly handled by untrained copywriters subjected to restrictive production quotas. Interviews with former employees and review of internal documents led to a conclusion that “the company’s claim of expert authentication was not accurate.” These unreliable proclivities have been documented in the past. “They...

The Ultimate Bag Guide: Bottega Veneta The Pouch

No one quite knew what to expect from Daniel Lee when Kering announced he would take over as creative director at Bottega Veneta. But in his short time at the house, he’s turned the brand from what was perceived as older, safe classics to multiple major hits and covetable shoe options that continue to be hard to track down. This is Daniel Lee’s Bottega...
